About Daniel Pollitt

Before starting with Meilstrup & Brown, Daniel spent three years as a law clerk for the 20th Judicial District in Boulder, Colorado. As a law clerk, Daniel worked directly with 15 district court judges in a variety of practice areas, including pre-trial and post-conviction criminal, juvenile delinquency, civil, domestic relations, dependency and neglect, and magistrate appeals. In this role, he was responsible for attending court hearings and dockets, reviewing pleadings, conducting research, and drafting rulings. While working in the judges’ chambers, Daniel developed an understanding of the judicial decision-making process and was primarily responsible for analyzing substantive issues before the court and writing the first draft of district court orders. As a result, Daniel developed a style of sophisticated and persuasive written advocacy that he carries with him into each criminal case he helps support.

Some of Daniel’s most notable criminal and juvenile delinquency work includes drafting orders based on motions for new trial due to newly discovered evidence, motions challenging prior convictions based on justifiable excuse or excusable neglect, habitual criminal hearings, postconviction motions, rape shield motions, CRE 404(b) motions, child hearsay motions, and motions challenging search warrants. Daniel transitioned the advanced writing and analytical skills he developed as a law clerk into effective advocacy on the front lines for the accused.

As a law student, Daniel was a Public Interest Scholar at the University of Miami and worked on issues related to housing rights, environmental justice, juvenile justice, and civil rights. Before attending law school, he taught middle school math and coached basketball at Quitman County Middle School in the Mississippi Delta as a member of the Mississippi Teacher Corps. A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and UNC graduate, Daniel is a massive Tar Heel sports fan.
